Sam Utah is a San Francisco born improvisational composer, performer and sound wave researcher from Santa Cruz, California. Although Sam has been writing music for over 20 years, his improvisations are sometimes lost unless someone is there to record them. Recently he was asked to record and publish some of his work so it will not be lost. If Sam composes while alone in his studio he does all the engineering and production work himself - a amateur in the best sense of the word - someone who does it for the love of it. Sam produced three albums in 18 months between 2003 and 2005, remastering some old songs and composing a bunch of new melodies as well.

Sam is also a student of sound and sound waves. You will notice that he produces a unique brand of music based on his breakthough approach to music and brain wave damping technology. This understated, new sound technology, can make the listener feel less stress, more relaxed (and sleepy too), and more in control. There definitely is a spiritual element to his compositions and people report (see Sam's Fans) a feeling of beauty and stillness when listening to his compositions. This music is mostly without drum beats or traditional rhythms, more often the music just comes in waves, like sound itself. Sam tends to stay in one key for each composition and intends to let the melodies wash over the listener. In an anecdotal observation of unruly overly energized ADD students who were subjected to Sam Utah's Symphony of Light as ambient sounds, the little rascals settled down and drew pictures and took a nap.
Just think, if the science of Cymatics is true, sound can have a profound effect on your whole being, even changing the structure of the physical world. Sam continues to research the formative and healing properties of sound and music. In the meantime he is providing us with a pleasant listening experience that might be really good for us too.

Through this music, Sam attempts to bring a little more beauty and peace into the world and it is his intent to get this music out to everyone open to it. The music IS relaxing and can and will be used to reduce road rage, stop conflicts or just put you into a restful state. While the music is mostly like fresh air - you hardly know its there unless you pay attention, people tell us the music is relaxing, beautiful and spiritual. Give it a try - a beautiful soundtrack for your next dinner party or for any relaxing times. He took the stage name Sam Utah based on an addicting kind of music called "Semuta" in Frank Herbert's science fiction classic, Dune -
